Last week, presenters Sadie Mercer and Robin Montero from the Seaside Chamber of Commerce, shared the inspiration behind TRAC, a creative effort to bring
color, pride and public art to Seaside’s streets. So far, 44 of the city’s 112 trash cans have been transformed with vibrant artwork from 48 local artists, selected from
245 submissions. The pieces represent a variety of media from photography to mosaics and are printed on durable vinyl wraps. One standout design, a dragonfly
created by members of the Clatsop-Nehalem Tribe, marked the first installation at Gateway Park. The artwork also features QR Codes linking to an interactive map of
all art locations and information about the artist. With Phase Two planned for 2026, there are still 68 cans to go, making this a project that continues to beautify
Seaside and celebrate local talent. Last week we also celebrated World Polio Day by painting our pinkies purple and donating to this very worthy cause. Rotary
members have contributed more than $2.1 billion and countless volunteer hours to protect nearly 3 billion children in 122 countries from this paralyzing disease. As a
founding partner of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, we’ve reduced polio cases by 99.9% since our first project to vaccinate children in the Philippines in 1979.

Today, polio remains endemic only in Afghanistan and Pakistan. But it’s crucial to
continue working to keep other countries polio-free. So, let’s celebrate what has been
achieved and re-commit to finish what remains to be done. The goal is within reach.
Together, we can ensure that every child, everywhere, grows up free from polio.
